Your stay
Seventeen rooms, seasonal rates

The house
A family house that never quite stopped being one.
Built in 1961 as a summer place for a Genoese family, Casa Lume kept its proportions when it became a hotel: small rooms, thick walls, and a kitchen that still works to whatever the boats brought in.

Upstairs
Doors left ajar, and floors that stay cool all summer.
Every room was a bedroom in a family house before it was a room in a hotel. We changed the plumbing and very little else.
See the rooms
The kitchen
One menu, written each afternoon.
What the boats brought in, what the garden had, and what Sale felt like cooking. Bread from the wood oven, lemons from the terrace.
Dinner and the bar
The upper terrace
Days arranged, or left entirely alone.
Two chairs under the vines and the whole gulf in front of them. If you want a boat at eight or a table on the point at sunset, we will have it ready.

What people say when they get home.
“We came for four nights and changed our flights twice. By the third morning the kitchen knew how we took our coffee and had stopped asking.”
Marguerite Ellery
London
“I have stayed in larger hotels on this coast and remembered none of them. This one I could draw from memory — the stair, the smell of the cellar, the light at six.”
Tomas Lindqvist
Stockholm
“It is not a hotel that performs for you. Nothing is announced. Things simply appear at the moment you were about to want them.”
